Relationships of Social Capital, Community Integration, and Depression in Female Saeteomins

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the relationships of social capital, community integration, and depression in female saeteomins living in South Korea and to draw policy implications from the findings. The subjects of this study consisted of female saeteomins who had lived in South Korea for more than 6 months. The investigation was made between May and September, 2010, over a total of 114 persons. Social capital was found to have a significant correlation with depression in the subjects. Community integration, however, showed no significant correlation with depression. Female saeteomins¡¯ social capital and community integration were found to be correlated. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that female saeteomins¡¯ social capital had negative effect on depression. Additionally, among other socioeconomic characteristics of female saeteomins, employed or unemployed, monthly income and physical health were found to be correlated with depression. Also, physical health was found to have a negative effect on depression.
